Take a quote from your favorite movie — there’s the title of your post. Now, write!
I am a child of the seventies and eighties. I saw Star Wars the first time it was in theaters, not after it was enhanced as the special effects technology boom commenced. It was my first science fiction indulgence, so the bar was set mighty high. Just like most of the male population that saw the movie the idea of being a Jedi Knight was pretty fantastic.
The fact that they had abilities above and beyond anything I knew was an interesting part of the plot. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader were not simply characters in a movie, they were iconic symbols of this Jedi fraternity. I was twelve when I first saw this movie. In relative terms the stature of these characters was pretty large.
Repeating their mantra “May the force be with you” allowed many of us to assume temporarily the power a Jedi Knight displayed on the screen. The phrase had multiple meanings however. It could mean what was originally intended, or it could also mean the force of all those willing to mimic the adventures.
Even today when I approach automatic doors I will wave like Obi Wan did when he made something happen by using “The Force”. I know it is silly, but how much of our lives are influenced by what we have experienced in our history. It is just a fun moment of remembrance for a film that will always hold a special place in my memory.

I was five when Star Wars come out and I too do the Jedi hand movement to open automatic doors. I’m still working on making that trick work when the remote’s across the room though 😉
