IN A NEW POST CREATED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PICTURE OF THE WORLD THROUGH YOUR EYES.
A few tips reinforcing what Ming taught us on Tuesday:
- Observe a scene first before lifting your camera to your eye.
- Ask yourself: What is the subject? What will you (not) include in the frame?
- Look for natural lines or frames in the shot to guide the viewer’s eye.
- Try different angles: Get low on the pavement. Look down from above.
I just returned from a trip to the Bahamas on the Carnival Sensation with my children’s high school band group. While there I made so many pictures in anticipation of upcoming weekly photo challenges. In the past there have been several challenges that have taxed my mind and photo skills. With that in mind I tried to delve into my photo choices with more thought to be better prepared to share the world through my eyes.
On the day before I left for my trip I snapped this shot looking into the neighboring field and the equipment staged to deal with the hay that is in season where I live. I think there are just specific times of the year I notice nature and the symbiosis involved. One of these is hay cutting time. I am blessed to live in a rural setting, where 50 acre fields are not rare. Many times these fields are cut and baled for use for livestock over the months of the year when the weather does not allow grass to thrive.
I think one of my greatest passions is documenting the adventures of my children. Part of this results in the experience of my wife who has few photos of her childhood due to the large size of her family and the effort required to deal with the basics of keeping everyone happy. I want my children to be able to look back and know where they went, what they did and how happy they were. When we exited the chartered buses at Port Canaveral on Sunday the excitement of the twenty-five students and eleven adults on the trip as we took in the physical size of the cruise ship was palpable.
But I am a curious admirer of the way our Creator chose to form this world. For instance the beauty of nature as the cycle of a day begins and ends. On Thursday our cruise ship sliced through the waters of the Caribbean Sea back into the Atlantic basin in Florida and I found myself on the forward deck taking in not only the sunrise, but the docking process. The following pictures are added in succession. The first four from the front deck of the ship, the last two from the seat of the charter bus as the sun glides down at the end of the day as we roll on through North Carolina heading home.
