Weekly Photo Challenge – Curves

The weekly photo challenge is our chance to show off our photography chops as well as the eye we have at capturing the world around us. This week our scope is thrown as wide as possible with a simple five letter word: Curves. As usual it did not take long for me to think of something suitable for this prompt. I know there will be such a varying range of responses to this prompt and I look forward to reading the other responses.

My first pictures come from the NASCAR track in Bristol Tennessee. There are two large curves here, Turns 1 &2 and 3&4. Yes, I have heard all the jokes about the good ole boys turning left. Whether you are a fan or not, you have to respect the nerve of guys that climb in race cars and careen inside the confines of the concrete and asphalt at speed up to and exceeding 200 mph.

As I search through my photo archives I realize I am woefully short on photos with any kind of curve. Apparently i am more linear in my photo subjects. Of course I notice other shapes, I just have not collected many of these. I did capture this portion of a rainbow, the most I could get in one frame with my Windows phone.

This photo is one I have pulled out for a couple of challenges, but I think it fits well here as curves are a critical piece of the design. This labyrinth stretches 3/4 of a mile, yet takes up considerably less linear space.

So there you have the curves I pulled from my photo archives. As you read this I am sailing toward the Bahamas on a cruise. Perhaps I will capture a few more diverse photos with interesting shapes for the next photo challenge.
