Daily Prompt- No Fair – Tell us about something you think is terribly unfair — and explain how you would rectify it.
I suppose I am coming at this from an odd perspective, but what I think is extremely unfair is the spectacle we call elections. Specifically the election of the highest office in our country, the USA, which is for the president. In the 2012 election nearly two billion dollars was spent to re-elect Barack Obama. What did the American populace get for all of this? Just an eighteen month campaign that pointed out the failures of not only the incumbent president, but the opposing Republican party.
Thanks to a judgement by the Supreme Court relating to some of the freedom to spend campaign money by corporations the record for the amount of cash laid out to convince us of what the best direction for our country should be exceeded a number that boggles my mind. Of course, if you lay the amount of the campaign against the outstanding federal debt of the U.S., 16 trillion it seems an inconsequential amount, but in truth it is a disgusting waste of money.
During the presidential election there is untold amounts of mailings to try to convince you to support one or the other candidate. Most of these pleas will be sent directly to the trash, thus meaning that money is wasted. Likewise the innumerable television commercials that jump on some unimportant phrase or misstep by a candidate will easily be forgotten or tuned out by an electorate that quickly tires of the marathon. I am not opposed to a fair and moderate campaign, but the spectacle known as the American election process is nothing like that.
The back end of this challenge is to explain how I would rectify the unfair situation. I think the election spending should be capped at $250 million total for both major parties. One hundred and twenty five million each. The parties would decide how to split up the total, whether television, internet or mail, but they would have a limit. I know, you want to quibble with my pie in the sky idea, but this is my blog, so get over it.

How about no money allocated at all? To rely on deeds to keep them newsworthy enough to get enough media exposure for the voters to make up their minds? The lies and the illusions created by publicists are no true reflection. The candidates should show that they are best qualified by ability and experience.
The democratic election system worldwide, does, indeed, stink.
i agree. I wrote another post about term limits and feel the pension the legislators get should be indexed to the benefit of the legislation they sponsor. No significant legislation = no pension.
Its a very different and versatile take on this daily prompt.
Well done.All the best =)
