Daily Prompt – Secret of Success

The Daily Prompt for August 25th is geared toward learning what we think would be a measure of a successful blog.  No doubt there will be as many answers as there is people taking on this adventure. Successful is a very subjective term. It will be as varied as the personalities of the respective blogger.

For me to be successful is a multi-faceted answer. I want to engage my readers most of all. I think of what I look for when reading a blog. I want to read something informative as well as interesting. It really comes back to the basic idea if it is not interesting no one will want to read. Obviously we all seek to write compelling posts, the kind that not only interest our readers, but cause them to share with others and comment to us. When we do that we are earning the space we borrow and the time we ask of our readers.

Another sign of success is the daily visitors that read our work. WordPress has great tools to give us statistics sliced and diced so many ways that we can use to analyze our traffic so we can understand what is going on with the visitors. I have been blessed to see my visitors steadily increase over the ten months since I began blogging, so I take that as a sign that I am providing a blog worth reading,

As I travel around to those I have connected with on WordPress i occasionally see either in others blogrolls or sidebars a link to my blog. This to me is another sign of success as others like my blog enough to advertise it tot he traffic they attract each day. We have to understand as bloggers we are interdependent on each other. With so many of us trying to become authors their is a tendency to view everyone as competition, but that simply is not true. Instead we should all work to give each other any aid or assistance possible as we all try to carve out our space online.

My success so far is limited, since I have been blogging such a short time. When I see some of the blogs that have been around for multiple years I gauge that as a true mark of success. When you are still relevant after so much time you are proving your success, because people still consult your blog for material. It means you learn and grow as you understand what your audience desires from you.

Perhaps i will revisit this topic in a year or three when my idea of success will be different.
