Questions I Think My Dog Would Ask – Chapter 7 – If I Can’t Eat It, Don’t Leave It!

Welcome back for the next installment in this recurring series and if you are new we are glad to have you. For background to the newbies, this is a chance for my four year old miniature Sheltie to speak her canine mind. If you were around Sydney for any amount of time you would realize her personality is so large that there has to be some questions she would like answered. I seek to be the best owner I can and attend to every need, so that is the reason we decided to bring her questions to this forum.

So this week’s QITMDWA is this, in Sydney’s words:

If I am not supposed to eat it why does everybody just leave it in my reach? I am a dog after all! Eating is my most favorite past time just after barking for no reason and following dad wherever he goes! If it is on the floor I consider it my possession. Ask mom and dad, I am the best four-legged vacuum ever created.

Last week I thought I had hit the jackpot when I found this huge bag of food out in my yard. Yes, it is my yard you stupid birds! Anyway, there it was this huge collection of chicken bones, all mine for the taking. I was happy as a clam, and then mom got that tone in her voice and her came dad to end the fun. Later whatever I found did not sit well on my tummy and dad had to clean up after me.

It’s not the first time I got sick eating something I was’;t supposed to, but usually it turns out alright. But there was this one night where everybody got really excited about my choice of snack. Meredith, my sister, is the best at leaving me little snacks. Especially when she has a lunch box she takes with her and brings it back home with leftovers. I guess she is always in a hurry when she eats because her bag is always open, which makes it easy for me.

But back tot he night everyone got excited. I was doing my thing, patrolling for scraps when I found this bright colored package in Meredith’s stuff that smelled really good. I had to chew through some kind of paper stuff, which if you know me is another thing I like, and then I got to the good tasting stuff. Suddenly there was a whole lot of excitement and the next thing I know Dad, Meredith and I are making a fast trip somewhere in the car.

I never get to ride in the car after dark in the evening. Dad and I go for rides a lot in the morning before the sun comes up, but I never go at night so i wondered what was going on. I’ll tell you what it was! IT WAS A SHOT! I heard something about sugarless gum that had something bad for dogs, but I didn’t think it was bad enough to deserve a shot.

So you understand why I say “If I can’t eat it, don’t leave it!”

Great questions and I think I have to agree with Sydney on this one. 😁

So you took time to read what I wrote and I appreciate it, but comments are even better!
