Flash in the Pan is another opportunity for you to enjoy Flash Fiction. I was happy to find it, but I am sure there are others who do not know. While flash can mean a lot of things, for this specific challenge it is limited to 150 words or less. There is a range of limits for each of the words selected for the Flash in the Pan challenge and Up is one of those with the highest word limit.
By selecting the words in the quarter’s list you can know your word limit. The exciting thing is that these stories are collected for publication each quarter. But, only 250 flashes entered will make the publication, so do not hesitate. The theme for this quarter’s edition is Boys and Their Toys. The deadline for story entry in March 31, 2014.

Tools (100)
“It took seventy two different tools to build that,” Jimmy’s grandfather boasted.
“Seventy two?” Jimmy said with the proper amount of awe. Of course anything grandfather did impressed Jimmy.
“What about this one?” Jimmy asked pointing at a television.
“Oh I don’t know for sure, maybe a couple of hundred,” grandfather replied.
Jimmy surveyed the pegboard on his grandfather’s workshop wall and the neat rows of his carefully positioned tools as he pondered to come up with the next question.
“Who gave these to you?”
“Some came from my grandfather, some I bought.”
“Can I use them?”
“Of course Jimmy.”
