Chain Writing Game 3 – Episode 6

This is something called a Chain Writing Game started by Kerrie Ann Salsac. This is the third iteration and the community seems to grow stronger with each one. I enjoy getting three cracks at the story, so I want to get my first in here. Keep in mind either 30 chapters or Wednesday is the end.  Here is my first this time around:

*****

Jenna eyed the woman’s natural coverings and wondered where she found them. She asked and received a grunt before her companion spoke.

“There is a carcass over the ridge. Come with me and we’ll get you some protection.”

Jenna was so cold she wasn’t about to quibble. Ordinarily a spear toting, animal skin-clad woman would send her running, but the threat of being dinosaur kibble provided a unique motivation.

“What’s your name?”

“Jamie.”

Mine is Jenna.”

“Let’s go.”

Padding through the snow she felt her feet becoming numb very rapidly. She needed protection like Jamie had made for hers.

  1. Thank you for remembering that our protagonist needed clothes.

  2. JackieP says:

Jaime and Jenna? Is there something to the names being so similar? Ah the ways we could go on all this! But yes, Jenna needs clothes or she isn’t going to last long. Great!

  3. draliman says:

Hopefully some clothes at last! Let’s hope the carcass hasn’t drawn the attention of anything with big teeth 🙂

  4. EagleAye says:

Uh, yeah. Thanks for this. Jenna needs clothes, and soon. Any chance that carcass is a Hadrosaur? The T-Rex has to eat something, right?

    • Joe Owens says:

Just thought of the complication (not trying to force a plot) of the T-Rex getting to the carcass first. That is what makes this so much fun there are so many intersections for the plot.

      • EagleAye says:

I suspect the carcass is there because of the T-Rex. Anyway, I bypassed that a bit. Putting on skins from a fresh kill would just draw predators. Jamie would know that. I thought they might get some of the skin and drag it to a secure area, and then get Jenna in some spare skins from Jamie’s backup clothes.

  5. J. Milburn says:

I’m glad Jenna’s finally going to get some clothes…maybe 😉 We’ll see what happens on the trek to the carcass! Great addition!

  6. kerrieanns says:

    We have a name!
I wonder how long Jaime has been wherever they are? She seems to have acclimatised well.

So you took time to read what I wrote and I appreciate it, but comments are even better!
