The Daily Prompt is at it again, trying to delve into our lives and discover more of what makes us tick. Today the topic is what bores us. The list of boring things is as unique as the person. For some it is sports, for others shopping, or gardening, or television. Personal taste can be a crazy thing. For every passion we have about something another kind find it of no interest at all. It is what makes the world go round.
So what is boring to me? Politics. Not the actual process, you see, but the talking. The perpetual promise to do something that will matter, only to follow that up with little or no action that is substantive. Politicians give so much lip service to bettering our lives. Over the thirty plus years I can remember listening the dialogue is much the same. One party or politician believes they have the mighty answer to cure all ills. But when they cannot get it done or when it does not turn out as they promised they immediately find someone or some reason to blame. They never take responsibility.
Promises are so easy to make and politicians know just how to make them. People are hurting and the ones we selected to represent us have the ability and platform to make a difference. Listening to them declare their sincerity and then watching them do nothing just makes you sick. I know when the founders of the United States laid out the government they had a much different system in mind. One that would represent our interests and make the necessary revisions to government policy to aid and assist the citizens of our great country.
Now when i hear the president or others begin to speak I tune out or turn off the program. It bores me because I do not expect any positive movement. If anything more freedoms will be trampled. I normally do not write about politics and I suppose you can see why. I am very disgusted with the process and feel it is not worth the time to discuss.

Politics as it plays out nowadays seems to be a lot of posturing doesn’t it? This is a topic I avoid now – though when the political scene in South Africa was changing, it was a very interesting topic to discuss at any dinner table.

Jolly well said as far as the egregious and double-dealing – or should I say, ‘snake-tongued’?! – typical politician is concerned. I, too, rarely dip my toe into the ghastly sewer which is politics. Too depressing! Alienora
