Is it Real or Memorex – Friday Fictioneers – 2nd August

Time to suspend reality and go into the fiction workshop. I do love taking off the gloves of reality to craft something that could be possible, but may not actually be. It is for the reader to determine and enjoy. We seem to have more and more new writers every week filtering in to dazzle us with their interpretations. This makes the task of entertaining all the more fun.

I will take a moment to thank our hostess, Rochelle, for putting this together each week. It has become one of my favorite weekly activities. Another thanks to our photo supplier, Jennifer Pendergast. The rumor is this is her summer home, where she is training humongous bees to replace the airline industry.

Fiction – 100 words

*****************

“Is it real or is it Memorex?” Charlie asked.

“Huh? What did you say?” Miranda asked.

“That thing,” Charlie said as he pointed.

“Doesn’t really matter,” Miranda said. “We cannot go.”

“Yeah, yeah. Decompress, swell up and go boom,” Charlie mocked the instructional video.

“You think it’s fake?”

“What better way to control us?”

Miranda looked at him before staring at the bee outside. It never moved, but Sir Reginald explained it was due to the atmosphere that lulled the gigantic insect into a trance.

A day later Miranda watched in horror as Charlie fatally proved the bee was real.

Oh, dear. Another bites the dust. Nice work with dialogue.

  2. Kent says:

Whoops! Who’d be using Memorex these days, anyway? Oh well. Enjoyable story and keep the doors locked at all times.

And it’s NOT so easy to tell what’s real and what’s an illusion these days. I was at an exhibition yesterday and one of the pieces on display was a moving image/film playing on a wall. I was puzzled as to the source of the image and was caught by a security person waving at the exhibit!

  4. Hi Joe,
The bees finally got angry over all that honey we stole. Well-written dialog! Ron

Sorry Charlie, only the best tasting humans get to be Bee-kist. I enjoyed the Memorex reference. I hadn’t heard that in a long time.

So you took time to read what I wrote and I appreciate it, but comments are even better!
