What do agents want you to submit?

How do I find an agent that will want what I write? Or that will read what I already have written. Don’t you wish you could know specifically who wants what? If you are like me the possible places to inquire are overwhelming. The last thing I want to do is waste my time and an agent’s sending them unwanted mail.

Don’t worry, I have not become an authority all of the sudden, but I did happen to be on a social platform at the exact best time. The particular social media plaform was Twitter and today there is a hashtag that is being used by agents to give their wish list of what they would love to see filling their slush piles.

What is a slush pile? To my knowledge it is the collection of unsolicited manuscripts that agents receive from aspiring writers like me and you. No matter what an agent says as far as having specific submission windows, you know there are those of our ilk who believe their story is so good the agent will overlook their failure to follow simple directions.

So anyway the agents are using the hashtag #MSWL to tweet their wish lists for potential manuscripts to publish. How many of us wish we had this kind of insight into what an agent wants? Well here it is in simple form. Now if you are Twitter aware this is likely a simple exercise. But for those who are not Twitter can be confoudning.

Never fear there is a white knight to the rescue. a Twitter user with the name KK Hendin is collecting these tweets on the following web page: http://t.co/J9S9LIHAwg

I checked out the website and it is going to be a great resource. I think we all owe KK Hendin (sorry, I have no idea if he or she) a great big thank you. To my mind this is a tremendous resource we will all benefit with.

This is the perfect time for you to find this. That is why I hurried and put together a post. I want others to benefit since my WIP is not ready yet.

  4. Sent a query out today through #MSWL!
