April A to Z Blogging Challenge – Day Twenty One – Under God

I guess I can claim a small victory in that I have hardly hesitated when choosing my topic for the first twenty letters of the alphabet. In fact with some letters I have imagined multiple topics. That all stopped with letter 21 – U. Nothing immediately jumped to mind. I went to search for a topic, using the scrabble word finder lists of words that start with Q. Again i found nothing immediately filling my mind. You must understand this is a totally foreign concept to me. I usually can come up with a topic to write without too much sweat.

Then it finally came to me, a topic I could make fit the bill. Under God. As a Christian, this phrase has a particular significance. The fact that is part of the relationship between religion and government is something all of us know and understand. You will hear a lot of griping about the term, especially for those who argue religion has no place in the government. I disagree. If we do not honor our Creator in everything we do, we cannot expect continued blessings on our lives.

The pledge of allegiance each of us in America learned has this two letter phrase prominently inserted. Many of those who traveled the Atlantic over six hundred years ago to found this country did it while seeking the freedom to express themselves and their religion. In my estimation, the phrase Under God is an indelible part of the fabric of the Unites States of America. To eliminate it would be like gutting our national DNA.

If you have a piece of money from the United States you will see the word “In God We Trust” printed prominently on the denomination. This is a further confirmation that our country was created and intended to be God-centered. Yes, with time that fact has gotten complicated, but as long as i am alive Under God will be a tenet I follow.

SPECIAL NOTE : I would like to use this space to offer a heartfelt thank you to Arlee Byrd, the founder of this challenge. I am happy to see his vision become such a great success. Leaders always step out of the pack to create something special. We want Arlee to know how much we appreciate his genius.
