It’s still phoneography month, and in today’s challenge I’m hoping you’ll put all of that futuristic camera tech to good use, by thinking about the shape of things to come.
As I read the introduction to this prompt I first decided i had nothing to offer. Then i looked around and realized some photos I am taking have future tense written all over them. We have the benefit of living in a rural area, with plenty of lad to experiment and indulge our passions, one of which include gardening. As some of you who read my posts know, i use to have a greenhouse business and still maintain a 12×16 greenhouse in my backyard.
This time of year is the right time to start seedlings inside for the coming spring planting time. I know many people forego the process of starting their own seeds for a variety of reasons: it;s too hard, too messy, mine never sprout, I don’t know what to do! I guess I have overcome all those questions after successfully sprouting a few hundred thousand seeds over the last decade. Last year we were not as successful because we did not attend to our seeds as well as we should.
Our problem was that we put the seeds in the greenhouse, but did not keep them watered sufficiently. Inside a greenhouse with the sun bearing down the temperatures even on a cool temperature day can soar into the eighties within the confines of that little space. Our young, tender seedlings wilted and dies before we had any clue they were in danger.
This year we seeded six varieties but brought the seeding tray inside and put it over the heat vent in our living room. In this position the seedlings get the light they require and have a steady source of heat. As you can see from the picture, the process is working. Nine days after seeding we have signs of success for three different varieties.
I also included some pictures from two summers ago of some of my tomato plants and the success I had with them. Last year was not as successful as the blight and weeds won out in the tomato patch in 2012.
Another set of photos I want to add here documents the progress of an Orchid that finished its blooming cycle near the first of this year. Many people say they would never try an orchid due to the fact that they can never get it to bloom again. Well, Even though I have some experience with less complex bloomers, we are noticing signs of success getting a three year old plant to produce new blooms. In these pictures you can notice fresh buds developing on our Orchid.
I though you might enjoy some pictures of the Orchids I got for my wife for Valentine’s Day. She has a hair salon in the basement of our home and these are just the thing to brighten the space and provide a conversation starter for the customers. Some come in excited on every visit to see the stage of flowering these beautiful plants display.
