Daily Prompt – First Light

Remember when you wrote down the first thought you had this morning? Great. Now write a post about it.

The first thing on my mind was to figure out what day it was. You know the feeling, you wake from your deep restful sleep and you are sort of unsure what day it is. Is it one of the days I have a pressing schedule or can I just roll over and go back to sleep. The truth kind of stinks as you realize it is a weekday, which means the usual routine.

Six forty is the usual start of the day at my house. Both kids are up and getting ready for another day of school. I am up and to the kitchen to get breakfast going and lunches packed. Even though our kids are teenagers they require a little prodding to make sure they are ready in time for school.

The usual routine was threatened this morning due to the forecast of snow in our area last evening. In fact, we instructed our son to leave his alarm off in case the school schedule was affected. It wasn’t so the process began shortly after a quick call to the school schedule hot line.

The only really unusual part of this morning’s routine was the need to travel into town to get replacement windshield wipers. Riding home from church last night in the rain the wiper on the driver’s side of the car just kind of peeled apart. I went to the local auto parts store for replacements and the first set I picked out was going to cost $40. As it happens I needed two sets, one for each Accord we own, for a total bill of $80.

I include this little bit of info because it was the second thing to cross my mind as i lay in bed after waking. I try to determine if there is anything I can do before I start work in the morning. The fact that it was going to relieve my account of eighty dollars was just too much to stomach. I took a few more minutes and cut that in half with another choice.

All of this was what I had to start my day. I hope yours was a little more inspiring!
