When I first saw this DP I almost skipped it. I could not think of a quote that fit the bill. After all many of the quotes that come to mind are from movies or television shows, which are not necessarily inspiring, but something that hits me as funny within their context. Occasionally a particular line form a commerical might do it, like when the quarterback in the Snickers commercial had just taken a brutal hit and is asked his name. He looks both ways, furls his brow and says “I’m Batman!” Or perhaps the commercial I heard last evening riding home with my wife. It was advertising fast battery replacement at a auto parts store. The spokeman says “If we could replace your battery faster by strapping on a jet pack we would. The trouble is jet packs are kind of squirrely!” I found this quite funny, but my wife just shook her head.
Thankfully I took another moment to delve deeper and realized there is a plethora of quotes I could use. They are bible verses that I choose to pattern my life. One that I go to quite often is found in Philippians 4:13 (KJV) “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” As a Christian this is a reassuring “quote” which can be recalled in days of difficulty.
I return to this because just like every other chapter and verse of God’s word it is solid. It is perpetually true. The circumstances of this mortal world will vary, but not the truth found in the Holy Bible’s pages. What could change is the way you feel when you read the particular verse when in the midst of conflict.
This particular verse moves me because it tells me I can do anything. Growing up i had parents to fill this role. Of course this was when walking, talking and learning in school were the biggest tasks. Phillipians 4:13 stood in when my brother, mother and father died. It was there when my daughter was diagnosed with Epilepsy. There were other instances, when I climbed up on a twenty foot high roof, against my fear of heights, during a mission trip in Florida or when job loss was my single focus.
In short, these ten words say it all. If you learn to relay on God and hold true to his teaching there is no limit to what you can accomplish. Try it and see for yourself!
