If the weather was cold, say like at the North Pole, you might be able to see the steam from Dasher’s nostrils as he waited to race, but here in Kansas it was much warmer. The thirtieth annual reindeer run was something he never missed. With seven consecutive wins he was guaranteed to retain his name and place on the nine team Santa Sleigh crew.
But there was a newcomer named Flash that had designs on his spot as the leader reindeer on the left side of the pack. Flash was a reindeer who wanted to be famous. His family had lost to Dasher one too many times, when his older brother Sven stumbled at the start and pulled his pork string.
Flash was determined not to repeat that painful day, the one everyone in the family remembered so well. While Dasher was busy laughing it up with the “Other Eight” Flash managed to slip some axle grease under the leaves in front of where Dasher would start the race.
Flash’s heart pounded as he waited for the whistle to start. The gasps of the crowd were loud as he tore out of the start and won too easily. Poor Dasher was crying as he saw his Christmas gig lost to this newcomer. He offered his congratulations and turned away to find a way to break the news to Santa. Flash had completed his task and nodded to his master, who smiled in response.

Pork string FTW!
Nice to see Dasher had the grace to congratulate Flash. I do have concerns about Flash’s self-esteem, though, knowing he won because of trickery.
Pulled his Pork string, brilliant. I actually laughed out loud! Do we have a Star Wars type theme going on here? 🙂
This will be a series and lead into a larger story.

Reindeer deceit! Who knew the fix was in???
Cheaters never win! Poor Dasher! I hope this is a to be continued . . .
It is in nine parts for the Blog Festivus and then a couple of long form installments.
PS – could you set up links to the other BlogFestivus riders? Perhaps below your posts or another page. Just so everyone can read everyone else’s work. It’s a nice thing to do. 🙂
I will get after that. I just returned from an eight day mission trip to Belize, so time and internet access have been limited.
Can you offer a brief tutorial about linking? Some of this stuff is still somewhat murky to me.
That Santa is a sneaky old elf. Who knew? 😉
Well done!
Nice!!!
